Ok, the memorial fund has been officially set up. It is officially known as the "Mark Bingham Leadership Fund." We will work out exactly what the scholarship is for, and who is on the selection committee, during Monday's service, which I hope you can all attend.

First off, I would like to thank Mardi Norman, Dave King's wife, and Larry Batina for all their help.

This is a non-profit fund, which means that all donations are tax-deductible. Contributions by check should be made out to "Mark Bingham Leadership Fund/CCF" and sent to the California Community Foundation at the address below.

Hello again,

I am writing to the entire list because I was unable to locate the email addresses of the specific few that I need to talk to, so I apologize in advance. When the fund was set up, it was done so so that all donations to it would be tax-deductible, and thus all checks would just be made out to the "mark bingham memorial fund." I know that I wrote in an earlier email that you could send checks to chi psi, and they would just get forwarded to the foundation.

Unfortunately, checks written to chi psi are not tax deductible, because we are not the same type of non-profit organization that the foundation is. So, for those few that have mailed checks to chi psi, please reply to this email and tell me whether you want that check back so you can write one directly to the fund and make it tax-deductible.

I will assume that if I don't hear from you, that you don't care whether the money is tax-deductible or not, and I will go ahead and just deposit those checks into the chi psi account and write one to the foundation.

YITB,
Greg

In the UK we were deeply saddened by the events of the eleventh, but have also found solace in the bravery of so many ordinary Americans, especially the passengers of Flight 93.

In particular, the rugby community has been touched by the actions and loss of Mark Bingham and Jeremy Glick, and discussions had started about whether we could contribute in some way to a fitting memorial to these brave men.

Our initial thoughts had been to collect funds towards the establishment of a scholarship of some kind, and so it was with interest that we noted the establishment of the Mark Bingham Memorial Fund. We have already had some offers of money and support, and had intended to collect money at, for example, the rugby internationals later in the autumn, at which crowds of up to 70,000 would be expected to be in attendance. If you could supply us with more details of what it is you intend (and, in particular, what sort of sum of money you aim to raise), we may well be able to co-ordinate our (at present slightly unfocused) efforts with your own.

If you have not yet come to a firm decision as to what would be an appropriate memorial, we have been considering several ideas which you might find helpful in you deliberations, the details of which we can provide should this be of any help to you.

Please accept the condolences of all those I know here in Britain on your tragic loss, and our best wishes in your appeal.

Yours sincerely,
Benjamin John Sheriff
